You’re busy. I’m busy. We all live a busy life, right? We may not all have the same story, but I promise you that I know this one thing to be true, life moves fast. Waiting for the perfect moment to get our health and our lives in order is not a plan that will succeed. Remember that we are all busy. I know what it feels like to make promises to myself about tomorrows that I cannot and do not keep.
I used to be standing in your shoes.
I know those shoes; they are tired, confused and fed-up…
But, it doesn’t have to be that way
How do I know…because I changed shoes. Through my studies at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I learned there was a direct link between the food I chose to put into my body and my health. I started to truly appreciate that the food choices I made were so much more than good or bad. They affected me on deeper levels. I needed to make the right choices in a broad sense (healthy/whole foods over processed junk), but also the right choices for ME.
Once I began to better understand how my body reacts to certain foods and also began to incorporate new, healthy foods and enjoy creative and fun meals.
Then I realized – this game just changed! I’m finally free at 43!
I felt energetic, happy, confident, and I was looking better, more radiant and more alive! No one believes me when I tell them I’m 43! I find peace and spiritual growth through my yoga practice. At the Institute I was able to study over 100 dietary theories and I also had the opportunity to study under respected teachers and leaders such as Andrew Weil, Mark Hyman, Geneen Roth and Deepak Chopra.
Enrolling at IIN changed my health forever. I learned how to eat to increase energy; to nourish my body on a cellular level and that it isn’t just about food, though food is a huge part of the equation.
I became a massage therapist because I love helping others feel good and managing their stress which is now a proven key cause now in so many diseases. So many of our illnesses and conditions can be prevented or reversed through lifestyle changes but that is often easier to say than do and that is where wellness coaching comes in…
You see growing up I was always sick. I never felt good and I thought that chronic constipation and diarrhea was simply normal. My parents accused me of being a picky eater but really food make me sick. They didn’t know and neither did I that I had Celiac Disease. So when I became an adult I experimented with different diets like becoming a vegetarian and vegan diets, eventually moving to a more whole foods type of diet. Obtaining all organic, whole wheat, non-processed, non-packaged, hormone and antibiotic-free, cage-free food was fairly easy for this CA girl. Yet, even eating that way, I was still miserable. One thing that had always really affected my self-esteem was the terrible acne I had for most of my life. Ironically, it was a dermatologist who helped me figure out that I had Celiac Disease because I had a terrible itchy painful rash that he diagnosed as DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) and later it was confirmed by a gastroenterologist that I did indeed have Celiac Disease. Finally I had answers to why I felt so horrible after eating.
So fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it-there was an explosion on the market of prepackaged processed gluten-free foods at a time where I was feeling deprived of my previous gluten-filled delights.
I’m here to tell you that “gluten-free” does not equal healthy!
Now I was able to binge regularly on all the “gluten-free” versions of pizza, chips, crackers, candy, pasta and breads…yet I still felt horrible!
So I did a crazy thing..I did an extreme detox diet of gluten free nutrition shakes and rice cakes with peach jelly. And while that “detox” did give my gut a break and my mind had more clarity than it had in years…
I realized I was not happy in my marriage of 17 years & decided to make a change and got divorced. I kept active during this time with ballet & jazz classes. However, divorces are stressful even when they are amicable and my body perceived the stress as “emergency-crisis mode” and decided to “protect” me. This caused me to gain a lot of weight. I moved to Ohio but the financial aftermath of the divorce made it so I could no longer enjoy my previous, “organic, cage free, hormone free, antibiotic free, unprocessed& unpackaged” CA lifestyle diet…
So I started putting more and more toxins except for gluten back into my body.
I got remarried to a wonderful man who supports me and my dreams. I had gained a ton of weight and to quote a favorite aunt, I was “huge at my wedding.” Well who cares? I was happy!
The decision to go back to school in my 40s, my new role as a stepmom, fitting into a new community, starting a new business and child custody disagreements all took its toll on me…
My body had had ENOUGH!!!
I suffered gallbladder attacks and a tumor was found on my liver. I had to undergo an extremely intense self-love & self-care program that you may read about here:
